BIO...

Jules served as a firefighter and officer for 30 years within East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS). Her career started in September 1994, originally being posted to Eastbourne fire station. At that time there was one other serving full time woman firefighter and so she was very much in the minority, and whilst there have been changes in this area over the last 30 years, Jules spent much of her career as one of the very few women in all areas of work. It was probably because if this that led Jules to voluntary organisation Women in the Fire Service (WFS), an organisation that was set up in the early 1990’s by women for women. Jules has been actively involved in WFS for over 25 years and has been the Chair since 2019 having previously undertaking roles including local and regional representative and then Vice Chair for 6 years. Moving around the service Jules worked across a variety of areas and roles and was promoted to group manager in 2006, taking on the role of Borough Commander for the Hastings area. During her time as a group manager Jules also worked as the Borough Commander for Eastbourne and Wealden before moving into a specialist role as the lead Fire Investigation Officer for the service. Jules was a Fire Investigation Officer for over 12 years and investigated over 80 fires and also spent three years working as the command and operational training manager where she was responsible for all operational and corporate training. In 2020 Jules was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for distinguished service. Jules took up the role as Assistant Director for People Services from January 2022 and remained in this role until she retired in September 2024. Jules was responsible for Human Resources and Organisational Development, Payroll and Pensions, Service Training Centre including Operational Training, Workforce Development, Health Safety and Wellbeing and Inclusion. Jules continues to volunteer for WFS and her passion for inclusion and supporting women across all roles continues.
