Professor Jagtar Singh OBE is currently the chair of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Jagtar started his public service life in the West Midlands Fire Service in 1977 and retired as deputy chief fire officer in 2005. With over 28 years’ strategic leadership experience in senior public service and national roles, Jagtar brings a wealth of expertise to roles he now fills in the NHS he is currently the Chairman of Community and Mental Health Trust in Coventry. Jagtar In 2023 has been awarded several accolades that define his standing in the NHS and overall society as a man of integrity values and purpose. His work and research on health and workforce inequalities was first in June of 2023 recognised by Warwick University with the award of professor, In October of 2023 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award from one of the largest staff networks in the NHS and in the same month he was for the 4th year recognised as one of the top 50 BAME NHS leaders. Jagtar in 2001 was the first BAME person to be appointed to the highest position on the Fire Service as Acting Chief Fire Officer. Jagtar rose from Fire Fighter to Divisional Commander in the West Midlands Service before completing his service as DCFO in Bedfordshire. He remained the only person from a BAME background to hold the role of CFO until 2021 when Wayne Brown was appointed to CFO in the West midlands Jagtar is one of very few BAME board chairs in the NHS and in companies of over £200 Million turnover.
